The work
Lead federation development for SUMMIT across UMass Lowell, NYU Tandon, and West Virginia University: real-time simulation with hardware in the loop, a wide-area software-defined network, and the access model that opens the instrument to outside groups.
Who we are looking for
A Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering or computer science; experience with power system simulation (RTDS or OPAL-RT), SDN, or cyber-physical security; the appetite to run an instrument, not only a study.

The work
Tuition and a stipend for a master's degree in electrical or computer engineering while working on one of three funded projects: BOND-AI, a NextFlex program on physics-informed AI for qualifying printed interfaces and bond joints that must survive 500 °C; ARPO, a U.S. Army project on autonomous robotic planning and optimization over contested networks; or ARPO-Sensor Fusion, a Massachusetts Technology Collaborative project on AI models that fuse multi-sensor intelligence feeds for autonomous missions, performed at UMLARC.
Who we are looking for
U.S. citizenship, which the sponsors require. A B.S. in ECE, CS, mechanical engineering, or materials science; strength in at least one of machine learning, embedded systems, robotics, or materials characterization; the ability to start in spring or fall 2027. Say which project you want and why.
