Work with the lab

Doctoral students

The lab takes one or two new Ph.D. students a year, usually with a research assistantship on a sponsored project. Strong applicants have a background in networking, systems, or power systems and can write working code; experience with simulation, optimization, or machine learning helps. Read two recent papers from the publications page and say in your email which problem you want to work on and why. Apply through the ECE graduate program and write to the director with your CV and transcript.

Postdoctoral researchers

A postdoctoral research associate position on SUMMIT, to lead federation development across the three sites, is open for a start in late 2026. Details on the center's positions page.

Undergraduates and master's students

Directed study, capstone, and summer research projects are available on FUSION, on grid co-simulation, and on the lab's testbeds. Write to the director with the course you have taken in networks or security and the project that interests you.

Companies and agencies

The lab works with utilities, network operators, and vendors through sponsored research, testbed access, and joint proposals. SUMMIT opens to collaborators in 2026 to 2027, and the lab's software is open source. Write to the director to discuss a problem, or see the center's sponsors and partners.

Visiting researchers

Visiting scholars and sabbatical visitors are welcome for stays of three months or more, with a defined project agreed in advance.
